Longer screw - by welding

Does anybody have experience with electr. welding of a pellet-screw?

I want to make my förrad a bit larger and need to make the skruv longer (at the end, about 1 meter)

I made a test-welding - it seems to be strong enough.

I thought the skruvs are made of feather-steel, which can´t be welded.
It seems to be ordinary steel only (good for me).

I haven´t tried it but is but couldn´t it be wise to overlap the two screws 10cm or something like that? How did you do?

An alternative is to fit a pipe inside the screw say 50-100 cm long and secure the screws to the pipe.

Yes, overlapping would not be a bad idea.

A copper-pipe inseide would make the diameter smaller. i think it could be reason for a pellet-jam at the beginning of the pipe...

I overlapped it 3 cm.

Ok - i have my own experience now it does only work as an emergency repair. The welded skruv makes a lot more noise then a single skruv.

And: The metal gets weakened also!

So if somebody must/wants to weld a flexskruv:

- overlap max 3 cm
- clean the outside of the welded part well by using a vinkelslip so that it doesnt skada the matningrör and motverkar the motor
- order snabb a new skruv
